Door Kinetic Arts Festival Held in Baileys Harbor

Oscar-winning Lombardi playwright Eric Simonson has assembled an exciting new lineup of creative artists and projects for the second Door Kinetic Arts Festival (DKAF) at the Björklunden campus of Lawrence University. The week-long festival, June 13-18, entertains Door County residents and visitors with world premieres of innovative new short films, play readings, stunning dance performances, a red carpet, and public workshops on the creative processes behind stage combat and the development of new dance, theatre and musical theatre works.

Festival founder Eric Simonson enthusiastically welcomes the 2017 DKAF filmmakers and artists. “We believe that artists create more powerfully and dynamically when inspired by a broad range of fellow artists from different disciplines,” says Simonson, “and that audiences gain more from their arts experiences when they can explore the inner workings of the creative process.”

The festival features a staged reading of the new play One House Over, written by Catherine Trieschmann and directed by Milwaukee Rep artistic Director Mark Clements; the world premiere of a DKAF-commissioned short film The Gleaner, directed by The Blacklist actor Harry Lennix; a reading of Strongman’s Ghost by renowned playwright Jeffrey Hatcher (CBS’s The Mentalist), directed by Eric Simonson (Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle); a performance from award-winning Chicago-based dance-theater ensemble Lucky Plush Productions; screenings of short films, including the award-winning and timely Frame 394, and The New Orleans Sazerac followed by a talk with The New York Times’ Robert Simonson. Highlighting the Festival part of DKAF, Simonson will serve drinks and give talks on the history of Wisconsin cocktails over the course of most festival evenings and multiple events.
